Cysteine peptide — also known as glutathione. I will write about the role this ingredient, known from glutathione IV drips, plays in skincare.

What glutathione is

Glutathione is a yeast-derived extract from Torula yeast. It has been used in medical contexts (glutathione IV drips) for brightening and skin care, known primarily for its antioxidant and whitening action from within.

Eliminating reactive oxygen species from within

It is widely understood that UV exposure generates reactive oxygen species which cause spots and dullness. Glutathione eliminates these from within. While topical antioxidants work at the skin's surface and interior, glutathione is directly involved in intracellular antioxidant mechanisms.

Its ability to suppress post-UV redness and pigmentation has also been confirmed.

Effects beyond the skin

Glutathione also has the ability to break down alcohol. It reduces the burden on the liver and is reported to be effective for breaking down post-exercise fatigue substances like lactic acid. From the perspective of reducing systemic oxidative stress, it has a role that extends beyond skincare.

Not viewing skincare as "a skin-only issue" is the perspective of our brand. The body's overall oxidative state directly affects skin condition. So we select ingredients from that perspective.
